A Professorship results in numerous benefits
The Paula Garvey Manship professorship has been of great benefit both to myself and to my students. This past semester, I used funds from my professorship to provide financial assistance to a DMA student who would otherwise have been unable to remain at LSU. This summer, I am using professorship funds to travel to Porto Alegre, Brazil, where I will be performing and teaching master-classes at the Universidade Federal Do Rio Grande Do Sul. – Michael Gurt, Paula G. Manship Distinguished Professor of Piano
Help the CMDA attract faculty of the highest caliber
The CMDA strives to be renowned for advancing knowledge and sustaining academic excellence. Professorships allow the CMDA to strengthen its ability to attract and retain exemplary academic talent to our faculty. An endowment of a professorship secures the position itself, and allows us to fill it whenever it becomes vacant. An endowed professorship is one of the most prestigious honors that can be bestowed upon an outstanding faculty member.
There is no better opportunity to directly affect the quality of our students and faculty by contributing to an existing professorship or one not yet fully endowed, or collaborating with us to create a brand-new professorship. You will create a legacy at the CMDA that will make a lasting impact for generations to come.
Professorships may be created through the LSU Foundation. Endowed professorships provide perpetual awards based on the earnings of the endowment. Endowed professorships require a principal of at least $100,000. Professorships are intended to supplement the salaries of faculty who meet the criteria outlined in the Donor Professorship Agreement. Some donors have indicated a specific area for the professorship; for others, the specific department (Music, Theatre) has made that determination.
