Ms. Morris (Jackson, MS) sang the “Poison Aria” from Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette and “Ach ich liebte” from Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail.  Ms. Douglas (Appleton, WI) sang “Chi il bel sogno di Doretta” from Puccini’s La Rondine and “Mi tradi quell’alma ingrata” from Mozart’s Don Giovanni.  Both Ms. Morris and Douglass were awarded Encouragement Awards and a cash prize of $250 each.

Ms. Williams (Hinesville, GA) sang “Summertime” from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and “O quante volte” from Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi.  Ms. Williams was awarded $700 and advanced forward to the Regional finals of the competition.  During the next day of the competition, Ms. Williams sang, “Depuis le jour” from Charpentier’s Louise and “Non mi dir” from Mozart’s Don Giovanni.  Although Ms. Williams did not advance to the semi-final round, she received an additional prize of $500.

In addition, Zoie Reams of Chicago, IL (not pictured) was awarded an Encouragement award and a cash prize of $330 during the West Tennessee District of the Mid-South Region Metropolitan Opera Auditions at the University of Memphis (TN) on February 14, 2015.  Zoie was one of three LSU students competed.  She performed “Smanie implacabili” from Mozart’s Così fan tutte and “Va! lassie couler mes larmes” from Massenet’s Werther.  The judges for that competition were Melissa Wegner (Metropolitan Opera National Council staff member), John Churchwell (San Francisco Opera) and Nicole Piccolomini (acclaimed mezzo-soprano).
